Hi Dear Lee !!I am learning your pentatonic scale books recently , I have already finished 30 pages its super amazing and useful !!! now I got a pentatonic scale pics in my brain , I don’t need to always start from the sixth string!! But recently I am learning about improvising with seven modes should I use the same way to learn it and made it become a picture in my brain like what I did with pentatonic scale? I checked your materials on amazon unfortunately you only published two books ,could you give me some tips or do you have other recommendations? Or maybe do you also offer some private lessons about it? Thank you so much !!
Hi Zhenhong.
I tend to do a bit of everything. I think the more varied you make your practice, the easier things come together as a whole over time. Whether it’s modes or any other kind of scale I pretty much use the same idea and break things down around the root note, just like the book describes the pentatonic scale.
I do also practice common positions but not as much, just helps tie everything together. I don’t actually care too much if I can play a scale with absolute efficiency across the entire fretboard, I just practice and play around until I get a reasonable grasp and then stick with my favourite sounding parts. It doesn’t take very long to fill in the gaps when needed.
