Hello lee sam here about the c major pentatonic scale you’ve uploaded the first form starting on 8th fret which says counting from the low E string E- 8 10
A-7 10
D-7 10
G-7 9
B-8 10
E-8 10 these numbers are the frets of course
Now my problem is that my music teacher has taught me the same thing in the way as follows
E-8 10
A-8 10
D-7 9
G-7 10
B-7 10
E-8 10
So which one is correct the one you’ve uploaded or the one my teacher has taught me this problem has been bugging me with a lot of things that I was taught by my teacher and the things that you posted
So my ultimate question is whom shall I trust?
Hi Sam. Have you questioned your teacher? It looks like a simple mistake to me … you have the strings listed the wrong way around. Mine is definitely correct, I have just double checked it. If you play your one from the bottom up, but starting with the thick E string, you’ll get the same as my one.
I’ll give you a quick explanation and something for you to think about if you have problems in the future. Scales are just notes. If you can find those notes on the fretboard then it’s easy enough to confirm for yourself when something doesn’t add up.
You can first search the Internet easily enough when looking up a scale. If three or four websites all say the same thing then the likelihood of them all being wrong is very low. If you look up the scale notes for C major pentatonic you’ll find they are C D E G A.
If you know how to find the notes on the fretboard then all you need to do is cross reference those notes with those on the fretboard. I’ll give you two diagrams here so that you can see what I mean.
