How do you fingerpick on a guitar and play the “snare”(slapping the strings). It seems when I do it, I stop everything else just to be able to hit it. How do I hit it and play without stopping?
I think it depends on how complex you want to make it.
It’s not a style I really play, although I have dabbled slightly with it.
All of these styles need to be learned slowly, literally one step at a time. Play the finger part, get to the first slap and then stop right there. Do this multiple times until you can do it repeatedly. After this, add in the very next note and stop right there.
Keep doing this and only add one note at a time until you build on it. Your brain and fingers need to adjust to it. If you keep trying to play a whole section until you get it right then you are doing it the hard way.
This is usually one of those cases where the cliche “just practicing your mistakes” … really makes sense.
