Just trying to work thru some scale theory and was wondering if a pentatonic scale has 5 notes to it why then do all the different box positions have 12 notes to them (just a bit confusing ) Thanks

They don’t. Each position will still have the same five notes so you have something confused.
Can you give me an example?

I assume you are talking about the amount of notes in one position. The notes are just repeated in different octaves. For example, the common box 1 pattern for A minor pentatonic has 12 notes but they are repeated as you move across the strings. Here is a diagram with the notes included.

hi mate thanks for getting back to me … what i mean is there appears 2 positions of notes on the 6 strings so that’s 12 or are they the same note but just a different octave IDK i know it probably seems a pretty basic and dumb question but i find some aspects of this a bit hard to follow the logic But thanks again for your answer great site btw !!!!
