Hi, I wanted to know which notes i can slide into and away from while playing the A minor penta over an A7 chord and also which notes are best to bend also using the Aminor penta over the A7 chord, Thanks in advance !
There’s no real “one size fits all” method because it also depends on the underlying sound / melody of the song whether some notes will clash or not.
Generally speaking, however, if you are strictly using the minor pentatonic scale then you can slide down / up or bend into any other note of the scale.
When the blues song is built around 7th chords then it’s really a major blues. Using the minor pentatonic over a major blues gives it a blues sound and works well because we’re used to hearing it. Because of this it’s common to mix major and minor pentatonic over these kinds of chord progressions, and / or chord tones.
Sliding into a chord tone or scale note from below usually sounds good.
Have you looked at the rock and roll soloing lesson? Even though it’s titled as “rock and roll”, it’s essentially the same thing as major blues soloing so you should be able to mix those ideas with the minor pentatonic. Check it out here…
