When I apply any sort of pressure even the slightest touch to any string I get a dull sound like you would when you press a string so much that when you strum you don’t get any sound.

I really have no idea because it doesn’t make much sense. Pressing too hard should really only make it go out of tune if anything. Only thing I can think of is that you are somehow muting the strings with the fingers or maybe you are too close / touching the frets.
