How do I play leads along with the backing track now that I have learned the pentatonic scales and also if I have learned a major pentatonic scale is it necessary to learn its related minor pentatonic separately help me out man
It’s a simple question but requires a very long answer. You need to build your knowledge one step at a time because it depends on so many things. The easiest thing to get started is with a straightforward blues or I-IV-V jam track. Major or minor will depend on the chord progression and style.
If you know the minor pentatonic then you already know the major pentatonic, to an extent. I personally look at them as very different scales but you don’t necessarily have to.
Just for you, I am going to start a new, on-going, article / lesson on playing lead guitar right from the start and your (and others) input will help me decide what route it takes. Keep an eye out, I will try to get this started over the weekend.
In the meantime, grab a blues track in let’s say A minor and just mess around with the A minor pentatonic scale over it. Find as many ideas as you can to avoid simply stepping through scale notes one at a time. Use bends, slides etc., and leave some space between notes.
Limit yourself to just four or five notes of the scale pattern, the less you have to play with, the more creative you will become because it will force you to think more and pay attention to what you are doing.
Thanks brother for the help I really appreciate it 👍
