i have been practicing for 2 years, to be honest i am not confined with a certain style, i can play classical pieces and also some gypsy jazz pieces and blues, but i know that my approach is not good and horribe because i suck at rythm, the most important thing is i don’t have musical sense… how can i develop my musical knowledge like mastering scales, modes, arpeggios etc….its very tough for me to explain, i hope you got my point…. all i want is a syatematic approach, because my playing is all mixed up
Hi Swaroop.
It’s difficult to answer because without seeing or hearing you play, it’s hard to know what your problem is. There’s nothing wrong with playing around with different styles, in fact I’d recommend it.
If you can play some Classical, Blues, Gypsy etc., then you must be doing something right. If you think you suck at rhythm then that’s what you need to work on as a priority. Are you taking about rhythm guitar i.e., chord playing? Or rhythm in general, things like timing and dynamics?
Scales, modes etc., I think most people try to jump too far ahead too quickly. Learning scales is ok but don’t get too obsessed with them. It’s far more important to make use of them with basic melodies and figuring out how they work over chord changes.
It’s a complicated subject so feel free to carry this on if you have more questions or can tell me more, let’s try to narrow it down into specifics rather than me throwing out generic answers.
