Why is the fifth in B Major a F# and not a G (2 whole steps above D# 3rd)?

The fifth isn’t two whole steps above the 3rd, it’s a whole and half step (or minor 3rd).
Taken from the major scale:
1 = Root = B
2 = W = C#
3 = W = D#
4 = H = E
5 = W = F#
6 = W = G#
7 = W = A#
8 = H = B
