A add 9, assuming you mean the common bar chord at the fifth fret?
Why? Remove the bar and you’ll have three open notes ringing. Top and bottom E’s plus the open B string. The three fingered notes still make the full chord A. C#, E.
E is already in the chord therefore the only additional note is the B, which is the 9th (or 2nd) giving us A add 9.
