It’s probably just me being a bit think – I find reading/playing most tablature quite easy but I don’t know the order to play the notes in scale diagrams – any advice would be appreciated.

You can play them any way you like really but when learning and practising it’s always best to start from the root otherwise it gets messy and harder to visualise / memorise things. Also play ascending and descending.
Here’s an A major scale starting on the fifth fret, sixth string.
Practice something like this..
Here’s an A major scale with a root note on the seventh fret, fourth string.
Play something like this, starting on a root note and work back descending and then ascending.
You can experiment any how you like. You could start on the same root and then move ascending, up to the first string and then back down to the sixth string. Doesn’t matter. I always recommend starting and ending on a root note because it helps internalise things.
