There is the sentence which states exactly opposite from what I have learned so far: “You should already know that once we get past the 12th fret, we can also play these box patterns FURTHER DOWN to neck an OCTAVE LOWER!”
Should it be: FURTHER UP ….. OCTAVE HIGHER ?

The sentence you quote is below the box 5 pattern which is shown starting at fret 15, that’s what it is referring to. In other words, once you get past the 12th fret, you can shift back down 12 frets (an octave lower) – therefore the pattern shown at fret 15 could be played back down the neck at fret 3.
