- Why are the notes in the Am pentatonic scale A C D E G? Is there a rule to follow for other pentatonic scales?

The pentatonic scales are built on formulas relating to the major scales.
For example: A major scale notes are …
A B C# D E F# G#
Numbered from 1 to 7 we get..
A(1) B(2) C#(3) D(4) E(5) F#(6) G#(7)
Minor pentatonic scales use the formula ..
1 b3 4 5 b7
If we compare that to A major we end up with the following.
A(1) C(b3) D(4) E(5) G(b7)
Does that help?
