I have seen a lot of videos on YouTube saying that the c major scale starts from A string 3rd fret and ends on the G string 5th fret that is it starts on C note and ends on the C note whilst your website says something entirely different please help me out
Scales are just a set of notes, you can start and end them where you like … any note, any string.
Starting and ending on the root, or from specific positions and strings is more about practice and organisation to keep your brain from overload and give you a sense of tonality to hear. It’s not a bad thing learning this way, it helps keep things in perspective but it’s not a rule.
You should mess around with as many as you can. Over time you will choose your favourites. I would definitely advise against starting on non-root notes while you are practicing / learning otherwise everything will be much harder to visualise and remember. So if you use the ones on this site then always start from the black dots (root notes). You can then descend back and forward from there.
Play against backing tracks as often as you can as well. You will find some patterns work better for you than others.
Thanks man
Yeah but which one is better and correct and what should I prefer the one this website provides or the ones that I saw on YouTube?
