Hi and thanks for your time. I have been playing acoustic guitar for every bit of 40 years. I have recently purchased an SG Jr. with the hope of embellishing some simple home recordings. I feel proficient with first position playing and being a Neil Young/Stephen Stills stalker, I utilize most of the neck. As it is I am stuck with the pentatonic scale fused into my cerebral cortex. At this point I am looking to use the electric to transition from chord to chord with a bit of (“well that’s nice”). I would like to think that with some counsel or understanding I could be playing this great little guitar better… Perhaps some effective exercises geared in that direction. At 62 the idea of “lessons” does not appeal to me. I really have never had a lesson for an instrument. Thanks so much for your time!! Joel in Minnesota
I’m not completely sure what you are trying to achieve. Do you mean adding some embellishment over the top of your acoustic recordings? I would think just a mix of using pentatonic or major scales and making use of chord tones would be pretty much where you might want to experiment. Have you checked out the chord tone articles?
