Hi everyone,
been playing for over 10 years but recently trying to learn some theory…OK I have a song that uses capo on fret 1.
Say I want to play the minor pentatonic scale over the song..do I simply move one up on the fretboard OR do I use normal position?

The best thing is to do what makes sense to you.
Generally speaking, if I was playing in the key of E in open position and then moved up one fret with the capo, while in that position I would probably still think like I was playing E minor pentatonic. Once I go beyond the 1st fret then I’d think of the actual key, i.e., F and ignore the capo, other than the fact that I’d be able to play all of the open strings as well. Does that make sense?
