When playing ‘Girl from Ipanema’ the chords are: I maj 7, II 7, ii7, then what? I# maj 7? Then back to I maj 7. Then it modulates three times for the middle section. How does the chord numbering system deal with moduation? Tricky stuff this Latin Jazz but it sounds so great.

I don’t know the song well enough but my guess would be, if it’s just as a passing chord then maybe something like bii. I’m not a jazzer so this question is probably best answered by someone who is more familiar with jazz concepts.
