Just trying to work thru some scale theory and was wondering if a pentatonic scale has 5 notes to it why then do all the different box positions have 12 notes to them (just a bit confusing ) Thanks

I assume you are talking about the amount of notes in one position. The notes are just repeated in different octaves. For example, the common box 1 pattern for A minor pentatonic has 12 notes but they are repeated as you move across the strings. Here is a diagram with the notes included.
