At the 2nd or 3rd fret of the g string on both of my acoustics I get a chimy sound when strumming. Both have a new set of strings. Is this normal ?

Very hard to know without seeing or hearing it.
My first thought would be possibly a fret needs adjusting but as it’s doing the same on two different guitars that might be unlikely. Unless it’s a problem with your playing technique my only other thought is maybe the strings, are they the same make? Might be a job for a guitar tech.

Not going to be the strings then. I think you might be best getting a guitar tech to look at it, a bit difficult at the moment no doubt.
