After a hiatus I am playing guitar again. I learned to play right handed but due to a finger deformity (pointer finger moves toward thumb when bent rather than aligning with middle finger) I feel limited in what I can do. Is it worth a try to learn to play left handed or should I just make the most of what I’ve got?
That’s difficult to answer. I have a friend who is right handed but learnt to play left handed due to an accident. He is a great guitarist. Might take some more effort, frustration and determination to switch if you already play right handed but I guess it can be done.
The other option is to make the most of what you’ve got as you say. Many great guitarists don’t use their pinky and Django Reinhardt did with only two fingers what many can’t do with all four. If it was me I think I would try to work with my limitations and only try left handed if all else failed. Good luck with what you do but I’d say with enough determination you can work around your limitations.
